Questions that help medical and healthcare facilities define environmental cleaning responsibilities before service starts.

IPAC stands for infection prevention and control. Environmental cleaning is one component of that wider program. A cleaning provider needs to understand the facility’s instructions and the agreed tasks; the phrase “IPAC cleaning” alone does not describe the areas, products, frequencies, or responsibilities involved.
Start with a room and area list. Separate reception and administrative areas from treatment spaces and other restricted zones. Identify the facility contact authorized to provide instructions. Clarify the boundary between environmental cleaning, clinical equipment care, waste handling, and tasks retained by facility staff.
Door handles, shared controls, counters, furniture, and washroom surfaces may require different attention depending on their use. Define the surfaces and frequencies in the facility’s plan rather than relying on a generic checklist. Note how the provider will be told about changes to room use or operational risk.
The scope should identify approved cleaning and disinfecting products and the applicable manufacturer instructions. Discuss dilution, surface compatibility, labelled contact times, equipment handling, and how cleaning materials are kept from transferring contamination between areas. These details need to be workable within the scheduled cleaning window.
These tasks should not be silently assumed to be part of a routine commercial cleaning agreement.
Agree on the record of completed work, the process for noting exceptions, and the contact for urgent questions. Keep patient information out of ordinary service inquiries. A useful record supports follow-up while limiting unnecessary personal information.
